Dear MCHA Members,

What a year it has been! This year, surrounded by history-making changes in our country, the MCHA made things happen and raised the bar for the future. My grandmother always said, “Fail to Plan, Plan to Fail,” and this year, these words have held true, working together while planning for the future, we have reached numerous achievements for our organization.

Even through tough times, we made some great strides, both in our organization and in the community. We increased our visibility with a new website, brochure and TV commercial. We tackled a Mission Impossible and threw a party that people are still talking about! The educational opportunities offered to our members ran the gauntlet from “Keeping the Holiday Spirit Alive 365,” to “Crime, Drugs and Gangs.” The Employee Appreciation Day was incredibly well attended with over 1300 participants, and our Hospitality Fun for All celebration was exactly that…fun for all! Follow that with one of our largest fundraisers in the form of our golf tournament and wrap it up with the Hospitality Recognition Luncheon…we finished another year filled with exciting activities resulting in Good Times with Good People!

Not only can the MCHA play hard, we also know how to work hard so hats off to the tireless efforts of the Government Affairs team of leaders for all of their accomplishments. We continue to be actively engaged in efforts to oppose the State Water Resources Control Board cutbacks on available water supply, there has been an active participation, financial support and assistance with the development of a regional taxi authority plan, continued support of the Tourism Improvement District efforts, constant connections to strengthen relations with elected officials, and active involvement with the Monterey County Business Political Action Committee and the Monterey County Farm Bureau Board. And did we mention that throughout all of this we managed to secure 28 new members to our Association which shows the dedication to our sales force which is the Association!

MCHA would not have been able to continue supporting our employees, members and community without your hard work, dedication and commitment. The future will be different, but for those ready for the challenge, it will be rich in possibilities.  Working together, the board and our volunteers turned a challenging year into a steady stream of successes.  And now, proudly, and with nothing but the utmost confidence, I turn over my gavel to Chris Chidlaw, a man who has been at the forefront of our organization for many years, and who stood out as a leader, taking on the hard task of increasing our membership to ensure our future.

So I leave you with pride in what we have accomplished this year, and the knowledge of how much more we can do. I am most grateful for the opportunity to be your leader, and humbled by your unfailing commitment to this organization and our industry. I thank you for all your hard work, and look forward to continued successes in 2010.

Best wishes for the most incredible year ahead!
