It is hard to believe 2011 is just
mid-year mark. MCHA has been extremely active this year with several hot topics
keeping us very busy. Our biggest challenge continues to be water and the
December 31, 2016 deadline set for us to solve our water issues or face a cease
and desist order which would be devastating to our industry.

So far this year, MCHA
has welcomed 22 new
members for a total of 274 members.

NEW MEMBER WELCOME: MCHA

There have been a few changes to MCHA's Government Affairs
program with the retirement of Bob McKenzie as our GA Director; the contracting of Bob
to work with the new
MCHA Coalition of
Peninsula Businesses to continue pursuing water issues for MCHA and its new
Coalition partners; and the hiring in May of our new full time Government
Affairs director Dale Ellis.

The Government Affairs Committee tracks issues that are critical to the near
and long-term viability and vitality of our businesses and our communities.
MCHA works hard to assure that policies implemented at the local level are
consistent with that goal.

MCHA is joined by six other broad-based community organizations, all
representing hundreds of businesses and thousands of residents: Monterey
Commercial Property Owners’ Association; Monterey County Association of
Realtors; Chambers of Commerce of Carmel, Monterey Peninsula, and Pacific
Grove, and Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.

MCHA SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS AVAILABLE:
We are excited to announce the availability of scholarship funds for those
students seeking a degree in the hospitality or wine related industries. We
offer scholarships up to $2,500 awarded on a competitive basis to qualified

Congratulations to the Monterey Plaza
Hotel & Spa for winning the Overall Competition at Employee Appreciation
Day June 15th at the Monterey Fairgrounds.
They had stiff competition from the most diverse field of
